Installation
ERC can install your septic tank on your new property. The three types of septic tanks that are commonly used are fiberglass, steel and concrete. Steel tanks are the least durable and have lids that are prone to corrosion, which can create serious risks to homeowners whose yard over the top of the tank is frequently walked upon. While the covers can be replaced, a steel tank is not the recommended variety for a new property.
Fiberglass tanks do not rust and crack like steel and concrete tanks, however, the lightweight material makes structural damage a real possibility, and the lack of weight creates a situation where the tank could frequently shift in the soil, leading to possible leaks.
Concrete tanks are the most solid of the septic tank options. Concrete tanks are durable and can last for several decades with proper inspection and maintenance.
ERC will determine the best location for septic tank on your property based upon clearance and setback regulations. Upon applying for and receiving the proper permits from the town and state, ERC will contact the utility companies and excavate the area prior to installation.
Once the excavation is complete, installation will begin in three separate phases and onto three separate fields on the property:
- Phase and Field 1: the pipe from the house to the septic tank
- Phase and Field 2: the physical septic tank
- Phase and Field 3: the drain field
When all three have been properly installed and inspected, ERC will hook everything into the home and refill the property to rough grade. As ERC stands by our initial flat rate fee, homeowners can rest assured that nothing that happens throughout the process will cause the cost of the project to inflate the price.
Repair and Replacement
The nose knows, and often, it is the odor wafting through your home which gives you the first clue that there is a problem with your septic tank. A visual inspection of the backyard can give you your second clue, if you see wet soil combined with the terrible odor. Other signs can include slow draining sinks, showers, bathtubs, or toilets.
In case of an issue with your septic tank, ERC can come to inspect and repair or replace your system, if necessary. The problem with your tank could be as simple as a broken pipe, yet it is also possible that your drain field needs to be replaced or worse…your entire septic system.
While a broken pipe is often no one’s fault and an easy repair, many times the drain field fails when a system hasn’t been pumped often enough. When this happens, the layer of sludge becomes so thick that the wastewater has no space to pool and allow for separation of ingredients. If these ingredients like solids and grease get into the drain field, they can clog it, causing them to bubble to the surface, and at that point, it is too late. The damage has been done and the drain field must be replaced. ERC will evaluate the damage to the whole system and help you decide if the pipe from the house and the septic tank, itself, can remain intact on only replace the drain field.
